Call for Papers of Collection:

Healthy Cities and Urban Resilience: Transformative Planning,Evaluation, and Sustainable Transitions

Cities worldwide are confronting unprecedented challenges—from climate change and public health crises to widening social inequalities and rapid urban transitions. At the same time, emerging paradigms of healthy urbanism, resilience thinking, and transformative planning are reshaping how cities can evolve toward more equitable, sustainable, and health‐promoting futures. Cities play a pivotal role in shaping population health, environmental quality, and societal resilience, while also driving climate impacts, resource pressures, and spatial disparities.
Understanding cities as complex, interconnected systems is therefore essential for advancing integrated approaches that embed health, well‐being, and sustainability into urban decision‐making and long‐term transformation pathways.
Within this perspective, sport, physical activity, and active mobility represent key levers for promoting healthier lifestyles, strengthening social cohesion, and enhancing the resilience of urban communities. This Call for Papers invites scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and interdisciplinary research teams to contribute original work that advances conceptual, methodological, and applied knowledge on healthy cities and urban resilience. We welcome theoretical contributions, empirical studies, comparative analyses, methodological innovations, and practice‐based insights that explore how planning, governance, evaluation, and active living strategies can support sustainable and
health‐enhancing urban transitions.
